I used to dive into my mom’s recipe books and bake enthusiastically with our trusty, decade-old oven. Though I often faced failures, I cherished every moment. After graduation, I realized accounting wasn’t my path, so I chose to pursue my passion. My parents cheered me on wholeheartedly and urged me to pursue my dreams.
I began my journey as an apprentice at a nearby bakery, earning $1,500 monthly. On my days off, I delved into the art of baking, experimenting with butter, flour, eggs, and sugar. I crafted my own recipes and tirelessly tested them until they were just right.
I created my own recipes and repeatedly tested them with ingredients like butter, flour, eggs, and sugar. There were many failures; I even remember sitting on my balcony in tears at times.
Throughout this journey, my sister was my go-to taste tester, always eager to try my latest creations. Eventually, I perfected a recipe and began selling cakes online. I left my bakery job to focus on selling my favorite chocolate cake to friends on Facebook.
I recall a memorable mishap when I sold 20 chocolate log cakes one Christmas weekend, and 30% of customers returned, disappointed that the logs were too flat. I spent the entire Christmas redoing them.
Choosing a name for my bakery was quite an adventure. I found inspiration from Bob Lam, a Hong Kong comedian I loved watching on YouTube. His videos never failed to bring me joy. In one memorable moment, despite a mishap at a wedding he was hosting, he remained positive, saying, "落地开花,富贵荣华" which means "When things fall, they blossom and bring wealth and prosperity." His resilience and optimism deeply inspired me.
I aimed for my bakery to bring joy, much like Bob did, which led to the creation of Bob the Baker Boy. From the start, Bob the Baker Boy has been more than just me. During my early days, my amazing sister, brother-in-law, parents, and aunt supported me through the most challenging times.
Today, we are a passionate team of 35 working from our lively kitchen at Pandan Loop. Our goal is straightforward: to bring happiness through baking to a million people.
Thank you for being part of our journey!
