Hi cake lovers! Have you noticed how customised cakes are popping up at every celebration in Singapore lately? Whether it's a birthday party, an anniversary, or just because you deserve a sweet treat, customised cakes are all the rage. Let me share with you why theyâre so popular recently and why everyoneâs talking about them!

So, I recently had the chance to chat with Lian He Zao Bao Singapore. We talked about Lee Hsien Loongâs fantastic customised birthday cake. Can you believe it? Our Prime Minister had a cake made just for him, and it was stunning. This got everyone buzzing about how unique and special customised cakes can be.
Back in the â90s, birthday cakes were pretty simple. I remember my own birthday cakes â they were usually flat, rectangular sheets covered in chocolate rice. They tasted great, but letâs be honest, they werenât exactly show-stoppers.
Fast forward to today, and wow, the birthday cakes changed! Weâve gone from those simple buttercream cakes to elaborate fondant-covered creations. I remember about ten years ago, my cousin ordered a 3D fondant cake for her kidâs first birthday. The delivery guy told her to keep it in an air-conditioned room â not just anywhere! We were all like, âWow, this cake is really pampered!â
But hereâs the thing â those fully fondant-covered cakes, while cute, were a bit of a hassle. They were dense and hard and could melt easily. Thatâs when bakeries like ours, Bob the Baker Boy, saw an opportunity. We started making buttercream cakes that were soft, delicious, and beautifully customised with fondant figurines.
One of the best parts of this job is making dream cakes for kids. Iâll never forget a sweet voice message I got from a little girl named Pearl. She said, âHello Aunty, I want a rainbow cake with colorful hearts and stars. My favorite is a unicorn cake. I want to be wearing a pink dress and a crown riding on a unicorn! Can I have some flowers on the cake too?â How could I say no to that? So, we made her dream cake, and it was as magical as she imagined.
These days, people want cakes that not only look good and taste great but are also a bit healthier. Weâve worked hard to create a cake thatâs just right â cottony and moist with half the sugar of regular customised cakes. It took a lot of trial and error (and a lot of eggs!), but we finally found the perfect recipe that everyone loves.
So, whether youâre celebrating something special or just treating yourself, remember that a customised cake is more than just dessert â itâs a piece of art that tells your story. Hereâs to more beautiful, delicious moments!
